Dubai Municipality's Department of Geographical Information System (GIS) Centre has launched GeoHub, a new incubator for geospatial-focused startups. The incubator aims to provide GIS-based innovations that are presented to the community through smart platforms and various activities that serve the social and professional levels.
The geospatial industry uses geographic and geospatial maps and data to inform future civil construction projects and municipal work, in addition to smart transformation.
The incubator's specialists and consultants will offer members and entrepreneurs associated with the incubator with the required support to implement their projects, and the Centre will further conduct workshops to attract investments to the creative geospatial initiatives and projects.
GeoHub effectively provides geospatial researchers, innovators and startups with:
- office space
- experienced mentorship
- a smart processing environment
- data accessibility
- training
- specialised equipment
The incubator aims to develop the latest working models, which establishes directives to solidify the Municipality’s position in nurturing best creative practices, supporting startups, offering leading companies investment opportunities in municipal work, and attracting new geospatial innovation, research, and development in Dubai.
Startupbootcamp, Al Futtaim, the Roads and Transport Authority, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, and the UAEU are part of the public-private conglomeration supporting GeoHub.
The new working model reinforces Dubai Municipality’s partnership with academic institutions and investment companies, through which it targets to establish an effective and sustainable communication system to ensure creativity and innovation to support its strategic vision.
